Hello everyone!

The English Master Class was held on September 4th and 5th, 2023.

This program was organized by ESL College in Hamamatsu City and consisted of a four-hour intensive English course per day.

The program was designed with overseas training in Singapore in mind. It covered a wide range of topics from basic to practical, such as quick responses, self-introductions, local introductions, route searching and explanations to the destination and more. We also introduced facilities in Hamamatsu City and around Seirei Christopher University. Each person was assigned a location, memorized its description, recorded a video and watched those together.

I used to feel that I was not good at English, but through this English Master Class, I was able to feel more familiar with English, and I started to enjoy it more than before. I also enjoyed being able to communicate with many people.

At first, I was worried about the environment filled with English, but thanks to the various programs provided by ESL College, I was able to have fun using English. I tend to be reluctant to use English, especially when I'm not confident. However, through this program, I feel that I was able to develop the positiveness of using English and the ability to communicate with others. Also, I was able to experience the joy, happiness, and sense of achievement when my English was understood by others. The content of the program was practical and very helpful. I would like to utilize the contents of this program when I actually go to training.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone at ESL College who prepared this program. Thanks to all of you, I was able to feel English more familiar and learn a lot while having fun. Thank you for the enjoyable two days!

こんにちは、みなさん！

2023年9月4日・5日にイングリッシュマスタークラスが行われました。

このプログラムは浜松市にあるESL Collegeによるもので、1日4時間の英語集中講座です。

シンガポールでの海外研修を想定したプログラムです。

内容はQuick response、自己紹介、地元紹介、目的地までのルート検索や説明など、基礎的なことから実践的な内容まで幅広いです。

浜松市内や大学周辺の施設も紹介しました。

一人ひとりに場所が割り振られ、その場所の説明を暗記し、ビデオに撮って一緒に見ました。

英語に苦手意識を持っていましたが、このイングリッシュマスタークラスを通して英語をもっと身近に感じることができ、苦手意識以上に英語が楽しくなりました。

また、たくさんの人とコミュニケーションをとることができて楽しかったです。

最初は英語だらけの環境に不安がありましたが、ESL Collegeの皆さんが用意してくださったさまざまなプログラムのおかげで楽しく英語を使うことができました。

苦手な英語を使うことに消極的になりがちです。

しかし、このプログラムを通じて、自分から英語を使う積極性や相手に伝える力を養うことができたと感じています。

また、自分の英語が相手に通じたときのうれしさや喜び、達成感を味わうことができました。

プログラムの内容は実践的でとても参考になりました。

このプログラムの内容を実際に研修に行く際に活かしていきたいと思います。

最後に、このプログラムを準備してくださったESL Collegeの皆さんに感謝いたします。

皆さんのおかげで英語をより身近に感じ、楽しみながらたくさんのことを学ぶことができました。

慌ただしく一日また一日と過ごす中で、紫陽花を生け、夏野菜を育てる祖母の姿に夏の近づきを感じる今日この頃です。

さて、去る6/19〜6/25本校の協定校であるサミュエルメリット大学（アメリカ）から、学生10名教員3名を迎えました。

私たち国際保健医療福祉プログラムの看護学部2年次生は、6月24日にSMUの学生や先生方、そして本学の学生（参加希望者）とともに浜松観光ツアーを行いました。

午前中は二橋染工場で伝統の“浜松注染そめ”による手ぬぐいづくり体験を行いました。

昼食は方広寺で精進料理をいただき、その後方広寺を散策しました。

参加者からは「英語でのコミュニケーションに不安を抱えていたが、楽しく会話することができた」「とても楽しい時間を過ごすことができた」等の感想をいただきました。

初めての国際交流活動の準備に戸惑うこともありましたが、無事に終えることができて良かったです。

グローバル教育推進センターの村松さんをはじめ、多くのお力添えを下さりました先生方には心より感謝しております。

これからもSMUとSCUの双方にとって貴重な国際交流を続いていけたら嬉しいです。

Hey there!  I'm excited to share my amazing experience as a student in the International Healthcare & Welfare Program at the School of Nursing. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting 10 students and 3 teachers from Samuel Merritt University (SMU) in the U.S., our awesome partner school.

To make their visit memorable, our second-year nursing students, specializing in the International Healthcare & Welfare Program, organized a fantastic city tour of Hamamatsu. On June 24th, we explored the city together with the SMU students and teachers.

In the morning, we kicked off the day with a unique hand towel making workshop at the famous Nihashi Dyeing Factory, where we learned the traditional art of "Hamamatsu Chusen Some." Later, we indulged in a delicious lunch of Shojin-Ryori dishes at the serene Houkou-ji Temple, followed by a delightful stroll around its picturesque surroundings.

It was heartwarming to hear some participants sharing their thoughts: "I was a bit worried about communicating in English, but we had such great conversations!" and "We had so much fun! What an unforgettable experience!"

Thank you, Samuel Merritt University, for joining us on this incredible journey. We look forward to more collaborative adventures in the future!

看護学部2年/2nd year school of nursing

Recently, I attended a lecture on global health and medical welfare where I gained insights into healthcare not only from a Japanese perspective but also from an international viewpoint.

The lecture made me imagine the lives of foreigners working in Japan, and I also learned about the actual situation in Kenya.

This helped me understand what kind of support we and the country can provide.

It is not easy to come up with ideas on our own, so it is important to know the needs of the people receiving support and understand what kind of systems already exist.

During the lecture, I also learned about health from an international perspective.

The World Health Organization defines health as "not the absence of disease or infirmity, but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being."

From this, I realized that health is not just about external factors but also strongly derived from the inside of the individual.

Therefore, I felt that a fair social support system for all people is necessary.

Attending this two-day course broadened my horizons, and I intend to continue to think about what we can do from the perspective of international healthcare and welfare.

1st year, Nursing

One day there was a session where senior students talked about studying abroad and learning English. There were two groups, one from the School of Nursing and the other from the School of Rehabilitation. The first group talked about the cultural differences they experienced during their stay in Singapore.

A senior student said, "I ate frogs in Singapore," which surprised me. But I thought it was interesting. I became interested in the difference in food culture because in Japan there is no culture of eating frogs in general.

Another group talked about their motivation for studying English. They shared with us "Why am I studying?" and "What is my goal?". Their stories inspired me to like English and to study harder.

1st year, Nursing

2022年11月23日、「先輩の話を聞く」会がありました。

看護学部の4年生の先輩方からはシンガポールでの研修についての話を聞くことができ、国際リハビリテーションコースの４年生の先輩方からは４年間の経験を通して感じたことや考えたことなどを聞くことができ、有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。

先輩方の充実したエピソードなどを聞いていて、改めて国際保健医療福祉プログラムに入って良かったと思いました。

また、自分も先輩方のように様々なことに挑戦し、より大学生活を充実させたいと思いました。

Today we had a meeting to hear from seniors who participated in international training. We were able to hear from the fourth-year nursing students about their experiences in Singapore training. We also had a meaningful time listening to the fourth-year students of the International Rehabilitation Course talk about their experiences and learning over the past four years. Hearing the fulfilling episodes of the seniors, I was once again glad to be a part of the International Health and Welfare Program. I also wanted to challenge various things like the seniors and enrich my university life.

こんにちは！

2022年4月から、全学部、全学科を対象とする国際保健医療福祉プログラムが始まりました。

このプログラムはグローバルに活躍できる専門職になることをめざして、授業のみならず課外活動も積極的に行っています。

そのひとつとして、2022年8月24日（水）・25日（木）にイングリッシュ・マスタークラス（英語集中講座）を行いました。

これは浜松市にあるESL collegeによるもので、1日4時間以上、2日間、お昼休み以外はずっと英語を使う「英語漬け」のプログラムでした。

海外研修（＠シンガポール）でのホームステイを想定したプログラムになっており、自己紹介の練習から始まって、現地で使えるフレーズの練習、グーグルマップを使ってシンガポール国内を移動する、現地のスターバックスやサブウェイで注文する、浜松市や大学の紹介をする、またホームステイ先にお礼状を書く練習など、リスニング、スピーキング、ライティング全てを使った英語の練習を行いました。

最後は、各個人で撮影した英語による浜松市と大学の紹介ビデオを、全員で鑑賞しました。

初日と2日目では、みなさんの表情も全然違っており、2日目には自信をもって発表できていました。

（看護学部）

自分は英語に対して苦手意識があったのですが、ESL Collegeの先生方や参加した同じ学生の人たちがとてもフレンドリーに接してくださったり、自分がつまずいた時も笑顔で一つ一つ教えてくださったりしたため、楽しみながら今回のプログラムに取り組むことができました。

これから本格的に国際プログラムの活動が進んでいくので、毎日少しでも英語に触れる機会を作りコツコツと学習しようと思います。

また楽しむことを忘れずにこれからも活動していきたいです。

（リハビリテーション学部）

ESL collegeの方々が宿題の英作文の添削を丁寧にしてくださりありがたかったです。

スターバックスの英語でのオーダーの仕方やクイックレスポンス、長文を暗記して発表するなど、普段自分だけではできない学習の仕方で英語を学べたのでとても貴重な体験だったし、充実していました。

英語だけを使うことで、ここが海外だと想定して飲食店の注文やホームステイなど、外国人との会話を疑似体験することができました。

たった2日間でも自分の語学力が伸びたと感じ、私の今後の英語学習のモチベーションになりました｡

今後は、オンライン英語学修プログラム（英会話プログラムと読解力プログラム）を継続してやっていきます。

私は文章を要約する力が足りていないので、読解力プログラムで本を読んだり、洋画を見た後で要約した内容を文章にしたりすることで要約力をつけていきたいと思います。

（社会福祉学部）

初日はペアワークやクイックレスポンスの練習などの活動で緊張しましたが、ESL Collegeの先生方が積極的に引っ張ってくれたおかげで徐々に打ち解けていくことができました。

全体的にユニークな活動が多く、なおかつホームステイ先で使えるような英語のテクニックも教えていただきました。

この2日間で得たことを、成長させる材料にしていきたいです。

周りの方々のように力は持っていませんが、気負いしすぎないで頑張りたいです。

このように、今後も国際保健医療福祉プログラムの活動について報告していきます。
